Swiss newspaper Le Matin have reported Leeds United target Reto Ziegler is training with FC Sion’s youth team. The 31 year old was released by the Swiss club at the end of last season, and has been linked with Leeds United in the past ten days.
This week we covered reports from Switzerland that Ziegler could be set for a return to Sion after leaving the club just a few months ago. The former Tottenham Hotspur defender played very little football last season due to injury, and for this reason Sion didn’t extend his contract.
However, Ziegler has begun to prove his fitness, and is now in talks with a surprise return to his former club. The Swiss international is said to be training with Sion’s youth team to maintain his fitness ahead of potential move back to the club.
Despite these talks there has been no official announcement over Ziegler resigning for Sion, which could still give Leeds United a slight chance of landing the player.
Last week we covered reports from Switzerland that Leeds United are interested in signing the Swiss international after he became a free agent this summer.
Thomas Christiansen could still look to strengthen his defensive options before the window closes, and Ziegler’s versatility could be an asset for Leeds.
Leeds United need to speed up any approach for Ziegler, given Sion have come back into the picture.
