Stuttgart midfielder Alexandru Maxim is likely to have a decision to make in the summer after being linked with Leeds United in recent months. His lack of games for the German side is beginning to have an impact on his career, and he may need to move on to regain his place in the Romania national set-up.

Since the turn of the year Maxim has mainly been ignored by Stuttgart coach Hannes Wolf, with the Romanian on several occasions not even making the match day squad.Wolf has gone on record to say he doesn’t care about players in his squad having reputations, and appearances for their countries.

Maxim falls into this bracket as he is one of the high profile players at the Bundesliga 2 side, and has made nearly thirty appearances for Romania.

However, it seems the Leeds United target will not add to this tally any time soon after being omitted from Romania’s squad for their upcoming internationals.

Maxim was selected in November for his country’s games with Poland and Russia when he was getting more playing time with his club, but it looks like the player’s lack of action this year has cost him his place in the national team.

Leeds United could look to take advantage of Maxim’s situation in the summer after holding initial talks with his agent in January. The midfielder’s representative has spoken about his client having to find a new club in the next window, and confirmed he had contact with Leeds United.

It seems as long as Wolf remains with Stuttgart, Maxim will struggle to get games, and a move looks on the cards.
