Bari defender Valerio Di Cesare has told the Italian media the reasons why he failed to make an impact at Chelsea. The Leeds United linked defender came through the Chelsea youth academy, but never made a Premier League appearance for the West London club.
Speaking to TuttoBari, Di Cesare was asked about his time in England with Chelsea. The 33-year-old believes his time at the club was hit and miss, and wasn’t helped by Roman Abrahimovic purchasing the club.
Di Cesare said at the time he was too young to break into the Chelsea team, and once the Premier League side started bringing in top class players the chance to make the breakthrough was further limited.
“My adventure at Chelsea was a hit and miss. I was too young, then came Abrahimovic which opened a new era, that led him to the club buying so many champions,” said the ex Chelsea player.
Di Cesare has been linked with a move back to England following reports in the Italian media Leeds United are interested in signing him this summer.
The player hasn’t ruled out moving in this transfer window, but Leeds United will face competition from Hellas Verona to land the veteran.
