At the start of the week, Brazilian outlet UOL said agents were flying to Europe to close Arthur Cabral’s move to Leeds United.

Even though there was no deal between the Whites and Basel yet, the representatives expected to complete the transfer.

It seems their plan didn’t work, according to an update from UOL today. The outlet says the negotiations are ‘on hold’ for now.

Leeds United had shown they could pay €15m upfront plus another €3m in bonuses, but Basel want the player’s €20m release clause to be triggered.

Besides the financial issue, there’s also the uncertainty about Arthur Cabral getting a work permit to feature in the Premier League.

According to UOL, the agents now consider the move to be ‘very hard’ and are looking for alternatives to Leeds. It’s said that other clubs have made approaches, and new bids could be submitted soon.

There’s every chance the move for Rodrigo Moreno killed this one.
