Leeds United forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga got himself back on the score sheet during his side’s 3-0 victory over Bristol City.
The 25 year old joined the Championship side on loan in the last window from Hamburg, and he’s already scored four goals for the club.
However, his parent club’s problems continued at the weekend when again they failed to score during their 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. Whilst there’s no shame in struggling against Bayern, Hamburg have only scored six goals this season, and just two in the past seven games, which has been highlighted by Hamburger Morgenpost.
This has resulted in the German side dropping into the relegation places this weekend, and with Lasogga’s goalscoring form at Leeds United, questions have been asked over why they allowed him to leave for England.
The former Germany U21 international arrived at Elland Road this summer after becoming surplus to requirements at Hamburg. Just before Lasogga joined the Yorkshire team he was branded ‘the flop of the century’ by a major investor at the Bundesliga side, but his move to England has helped kickstart his career.
The striker was generally a figure of mockery for the German media, with Hamburg either wanting to see him move elsewhere, or prepared to have him play in the reserves.
Since arriving at Leeds United, Lasogga has become a cult hero with the Elland Road faithful, and there have been suggestions among the Hamburg hierarchy he could still have a future with the German side.
Hamburg are in desperate of a goalscorer, and Lasogga’s transfer to Leeds United becomes ever more confusing, along with the general dismissing of the player throughout the summer.
