Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson will again to have to watch from the sidelines when Sweden take on Luxembourg tonight.
There has been speculation in the Swedish media Jansson could be selected after his performances for Leeds United this season, but coach Janne Andersson has gone with the same central defensive partnership which faced the Netherlands last month.
Aftonbladet have confirmed the stating eleven for Sweden’s World Cup qualifier tonight, and Andersson has again gone for the pairing of Victor Lindelof and Andreas Granqvist, despite the form of Jannson in the past few weeks.
Only this week there were reports in Sweden that Jannson could give Andersson a selection dilemma in the two upcoming games for the country, but like with previous coach Erik Hamren, Jansson has been overlooked for his country.
This will come as blow to the Leeds United star after failing to get any playing time in the last game against the Netherlands. Since making his debut in 2012 for Sweden, Jansson has played just eight games, and even though he was part of Harmen’s Euro 2016 squad the 25-year-old payed no minutes during the tournament.
The defender recently criticised the last regime after Sweden failed to get out of the group stages in France. The player questioned Harmen’s tactics, but his frustrations may have come from the lack of games he was getting under his former coach.
