According to reports in New Zealand, Leeds United’s Chris Wood sent security staff into a panic following his country’s defeat to Russia on Saturday. Wood is currently away with his national side, as New Zealand compete in the Confederations Cup.
Stuff.nz have reported on Wood demanding to join his family after New Zealand fans were kept behind following their 2-0 defeat to Russia. It’s been claimed the Leeds United star and his teammate Ryan Thomas stunned security at the Krestovsky Stadium by storming up the stand to demand a gate was opened, so they could meet their loved ones.
Their partners were situated among the travelling All Whites fans, and Thomas even took the opportunity to have his photo taken with supporters.
Wood has become the star player for New Zealand, following his impressive season with Leeds United. The forward finished the campaign as the Championship’s top scorer, and he’s now expected to deliver for his country.
However, after their defeat in the opening game of the tournament, New Zealand face a difficult task reaching the knock out stages.
