Leeds United star Pontus Jansson has received a huge boost from Sweden manager Janne Andersson after the Swede confirmed the defender will start tonight’s game against Hungary. Jansson has become a regular fixture in the Sweden squad, but has failed to get playing time in the recent games.
Sydsvenskan have confirmed Andersson’s starting eleven for the friendly in Budapest, which includes a rare start for Jansson.
The Swedish coach has revealed the Leeds United defender will line up alongside captain Andreas Granqvist in place of Benfica star Victor Lindelöf. Jansson is also expected to play the full ninety minutes after Andersson revealed Lindelöf will replace Granqvist at half time.
Jansson’s only minutes in recent games came on Friday when he was an 87th minute substitute in the World Cup Qualifier against France.
Jansson will tonight be hoping he can reproduce his form for Leeds United for his country, and try to establish himself as first choice in the team. Jansson has found it difficult to get a place in the team because of Granqvist and Lindelöf, so he will need to impress Andersson in Hungary. However, with Granqvist not getting any younger the 25-year-old Leeds United favourite has a chance to be the future of his country’s defence alongside Lindelöf.
