Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier is ‘enthusiastic’ about a move to Marseille this summer and leaving Elland Road after five years.

That’s according to La Provence, who say while talks are in the initial stages, he is more than interested in the potential return to France.

The newspaper explains that Marseille are on the hunt for a replacement for Pau Lopez and want a goalkeeper who better fits the system Roberto de Zerbi is likely to employ.

Meslier fits the bill and has already held contact with Marseille about the potential move to the club this summer.

The two parties are only gathering information at this moment in time and their contacts are in the very early stages, but the Leeds goalkeeper has made it clear that he is ‘enthusiastic’ about the potential move to the south of France.

He wants to leave Leeds this summer after five years at the club following their failure to make it back to the Premier League this season.

One potential problem is that he has a high release clause in his current contract but there is a belief that his exit could be negotiated at a lower price, even if those details have not been leaked out at this moment in time.

That is presumably because of Leeds well established financial issues and their need to raise significant funds this summer to help fill an alleged hole in their books.

It’s now up to Marseille to step forward and offer something for Meslier, but his clear willingness to make the move might now encourage them to do so.
