The Swedish media have reacted to Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson being nominated for the ‘Leeds Sportsman Award 2017′.
Sydsvenskan have reported on Jansson being selected for this year’s Leeds athlete of the year, saying he’ll ‘become a cult hero’ if he picks up the award. They clearly value these things more in Sweden than in Leeds.
The Malmo based newspaper once again takes the opportunity to inform a Swedish audience about Jansson’s status at Leeds United, and his ‘love story’ with the club, where he’s admired by the Elland Road faithful.
The winner will be announced 1st March, with Jansson going up against Steve Ward (Rugby League), Tom Bishop (Triathlon), Matty Lee (Diving), Josh Washington (Boxing), Jonny Bairstow (Cricket), and Nile Wilson (Gymnastics).
Since his arrival at the club last year, the Leeds United fans have taken the Swede to their hearts, and he was key in the quest for promotion last season.
Jansson recently committed himself to the club on a 5 year contract, and his aim now will surely be to help Leeds United get back into the top flight.
