Alvaro Negredo to Leeds United was born in the most unreliable corners of the Spanish transfer media, and then spread over to England. The rumour died for a while, but was launched again at the end of last week, and of course it caused several Spanish eyebrows to rise.
Valencia really want to get rid of Negredo’s wages, he’s so much on the market the club may consider an Ebay listing soon. Leeds United don’t especially need Negredo, he’s similar to Chris Wood, and putting either on the bench wouldn’t make a great deal of sense.
Spain’s El Desmarque have taken a sledgehammer to the rumour and claim they’ve spoken to sources at the Championship club. In our experience they wouldn’t report that had they not.
Those sources have told El Desmarque that Leeds United ‘doesn’t have economic capacity’ to sign Negredo. Leeds rate him as a player, specifically Victor Orta, but the ‘high cost of his signing makes the operation impossible’.
However, there is some hope dangled, with El Desmarque adding ‘his arrival at Elland Road is discarded unless the striker agrees to reduce his salary considerably’.
The only way Negredo to Leeds United makes real sense is if Wood leaves the club, the Spaniard agrees to a big pay cut, and Valencia accept a low transfer fee or low cost loan.
