In their Monday edition, Gazzetta di Modena have yet another take on Jerry Mbakogu to Leeds United.

Italian reports from the weekend stated Leeds United were closing in on a deal for the striker, after claims the potential transfer was dead.

Sunday’s edition of the newspaper said Carpi bringing the price down to €1.8m had seen a ‘decisive acceleration’ in talks, and Leeds were therefore closing in on a deal.

On Monday it’s accepted that Leeds’ first choice is Matej Vydra from Derby County, and it’s believe things are going reasonably well on that track, but it doesn’t mean Mbakogu would be a dead deal.

Gazzetta di Modena say that whilst the player may not now be Leeds’ ‘priority’, the lower price means a deal can still be done. That would see the Championship club sign Mbakogu and another striker, possibly Vydra.

Given how long this has all gone on for, doing the deal for €1.8m sounds like a reasonable plan.

Others could then be sold or loaned and Leeds United escape the potential scenario of Mbakogu going somewhere else and doing well.
