There’s good news for Leeds United coming from Portugal, as one of their summer targets could be listed for a transfer very soon.

A Bola analyse the situation of a couple of youngsters who are struggling to have regular minutes for the Lisbon club.

Diogo Gonçalves, who has been linked to Leeds United earlier this month, is expected to make the preseason with Benfica, but when the league starts, there are ‘strong possibilities’ he goes out to gain experience.

The bad news for Leeds is there’s competition, and that includes Sheffield Wednesday.

A Bola report Amiens, Leganes and Sheffield Wednesday all tried to sign Gonçalves in January, so they’d be expected to be keen again in the summer.

It was a different newspaper, Record, who reported Leeds United interest in the midfielder this month. They called him a ‘priority signing’ for the club, and his agent Jorge Mendes could help him get a loan transfer.

The Championship has been a good destination for Portuguese players to gain experience. That’s definitely good for Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday, who could have arguments to convince both Gonçalves and Benfica. This transfer doesn’t look very difficult, as long as the Eagles continue with their plans to give the 21-year-old a little more game time.
