Leeds United are keen on signing Mjällby AIF goalkeeper Noel Törnqvist in the winter market.
That’s according to Fotboll Direkt, who say Leeds are showing ‘serious interest’ in the 22-year-old.
The Leeds links aren’t new as they were credited with an interest in the stopper a year ago.
Although no deal took shape, Törnqvist was pleased with the links and spoke about his desire to move to England. The outlet has found out from several sources that Daniel Farke’s side are not only back in the picture for Swede but are keen on signing him.
The goalkeeper has kept seven clean sheets and conceded 29 goals from 27 games this year for Mjällby. The Championship side have sent scouts to watch him live in action and now their interest in him is ‘concrete’.
Törnqvist’s contract lasts until December 2026 and his employer currently value him at SEK 15m [€1.3m].
Fotboll Direkt have no information about Leeds making a bid but state Farke’s side could make an offer for the player in the ‘near future’. This indicates the English club could send a proposal in January and the fee requested would be affordable for them.
The outlet contacted Mjällby sporting director Hasse Larsson for an update. Responding to that, he said: “The only thing I can comment on is that we know there is interest.”
It’s not made clear whether Larsson was commenting specifically about Leeds or interest shown by clubs in general.
