Leeds United may end up missing out on one of their alleged summer targets, according to claims from Italy this week.

Il Messaggero reports that Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi has been working to convince Felipe Caicedo to stay at the club.

It’s claimed the player’s departure from the Italian side ‘is no longer obvious’ as it seemed at the end of the season, so the rumours about a transfer should cool down now.

Il Messaggero writes that requests coming from England, with Leeds ‘on the front row’, and also from China and Arab Emirates, had shook the player at the time. But now having more importance in the squad, he shouldn’t be seeking a move.

Leeds United have been linked with the player in previous windows, and these latest claims started in Ecuador last month.

With Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road there’s a lot attention given to the club in the South American media so there’s always the chance a reporter pushes a claim further than the reality is, or an agent uses Leeds to strengthen his client’s position.
