Leeds United defender Robin Koch will undergo knee surgery today at the Fortius Clinic in London after limping off in the defeat to Chelsea.
That’s according to BILD, who provide details of the centre-backs injury and the steps the club are taking to resolve the issue.
Koch was forced to leave the recent clash with Chelsea early after taking a blow to his knee, with the club later confirming he would need surgery to rectify the issue.
BILD provide details on that process, saying the surgery will be carried out by a Dr Andy Williams, one of the ‘world’s leading knee specialists’ according to the newspaper, at the Fortius Clinic in London.
Originally Leeds had planned for the German to travel to Germany to see Dr Christian Fink, another renowned surgeon when it comes to knee injuries and one who fans will remember well from the Leroy Sané saga last summer.
However, the current quarantine regulations in England meant that was ‘virtually impossible’, and so they have elected to send him to the capital instead.
The good news is that it appears Leeds will not be without Koch for the rest of the season, with it stated he could start his rehab from tomorrow to ensure he is back for the second half of the season and ready for Germany duty in March.
The injury is not a new one, with Koch admitting that he and Leeds’ doctors knew he would need surgery at some point this year.
“At the beginning of the season we decided together with the doctors that I could play like this for the time being,” he said.
“But it was clear to us that sooner or later we would have to perform the procedure. The time came after the game against Chelsea.
“In view of a very important year for me in 2021, it is now crucial to be able to be back on the field in spring.
“Andy Williams is an absolute expert in this field. I felt that I was in very good hands with him from the start. “
