Under Victor Orta, Leeds United have increasingly been linked with young players from around Europe, and even further afield. There’s a clear plan at the Championship club to sign a group of talents in the hope they can fulfil their potential and be used by the first team quickly, and/or be sold on for a profit.
Then there’s Orta’s identifying of other players, like Samu Saiz, and picking up potential stars which other clubs have perhaps overlooked due to them being outside of a top division.
Marvin Ducksch would fall into the latter category. Impressing this season with Bundesliga 2 side Holstein Kiel, the 23 year old has 10 goals and two assists in the league so far this season.
On loan at Holstein Kiel, Ducksch is owned by St Pauli, where he has a contract until June 2019, putting a little downward pressure on his value if there’s a lack of interest.
However, Liga Zwei reckon there’s likely to be plenty of interest so Leeds United’s pursuit ‘seems questionable’, at least in terms of trying to tempt the player.
Should Leeds fail to achieve promotion this season, and top of the league Holstein Kiel manage it, then Ducksch is likely to have several options to stay in Germany’s top division.
