If you’ve been keeping up with the news out of Belgium of late, you’ll know that they’ve been eyeing up Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk.

Struijk is Dutch, but his lack of appearances for the Netherlands so far and their fierce competition at centre back means he has been considering his international future.

As he’s also eligible to play for Belgium, it was reported that he was looking into getting a Belgian passport and that Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has even been in touch with the player about potentially changing his allegiance.

That’s yet to happen, with his agent revealing recently that the Leeds man needs more time to make his decision.

Until then, it’s likely the centre back will be garnering a lot of attention from both countries, who are clearly keen to have him to ensure the other cannot.

One man who isn’t quite convinced is Belgian pundit Marc Degryse, though, who questioned the need for Struijk after watching Leeds United’s recent clash with Chelsea.

“It cannot be said that he is head and shoulders above the rest,” he told Play Sports, relayed by Voetbal Nieuws.

“To take him in now, I don’t know.

“If you have to choose between Vermaelen at the moment, even though we don’t see him playing in Japan, and Struijk, then I blindly choose Vermaelen.”
