Mateusz Klich is really enjoying this season under Marcelo Bielsa.

When the midfielder went on loan to FC Utrecht last season he initially wasn’t so keen on returning to Elland Road, largely down to Thomas Christiansen. The pair didn’t get on, and Klich felt he hadn’t been given a fair chance since his transfer from FC Twente.

Earlier this week, he told the Polish media how happy he is with Leeds’ start to the season: “Before the season, our fans saw Leeds in the lead, but they also did not expect us to start that way from the off. After six rounds, we’re leading, we have not lost yet. It looks really good. We surprised everyone and surprised ourselves.

“I’ve never been so successful at the beginning of the season. It promises to be interesting. If this continues, I’ll finish with 20 goals (laughs).”

Klich was also eager to explain the impact of Marcelo Bielsa: “Everything I’ve done so far, I use more gas. This was the key attention of the trainer. Everything is fine, I have no problems with the ball, but I have to do everything with greater intensity. And he was right. As the central midfielder I combine attack with defence, I have to be everywhere. Coach Bielsa stresses that there is no reason why one should stop running on the pitch.”

This new and improved version of Klich is proving a hit in Poland, and there’s been plenty of articles about the Leeds United player. He’s expected to get a chance for his country during the current break, and a lot is expected.

Former national team player Marcin Żewłakow is a big fan, and has dubbed the player ‘Harry Potter’.

Poland’s TVP say Klich ‘has several football spells’, and they quote Żewłakow as saying: “He has a non-Polish style, he plays nicely, he has class in his movements and vision.”

It’s the glasses isn’t it.
