Frank de Boer was the Ajax youth coach between 2007 and 2010 before being promoted to the first team the same year.
During the former Crystal Palace manager’s time at the Dutch club’s academy, Ouasim Bouy was dubbed one of the brightest prospects in Netherlands.
He left the Eredivisie side and made a switch to Juventus in 2012, where he failed to find his way into their first team and after spending time away on loan, he was released five years later.
Leeds United signed him on a free transfer and he’s now currently on loan at PEC Zwolle, which is his third spell with the same club.
De Boer told Fox Sports Netherlands why he felt that Bouy was wrong to leave Ajax and suggested the 25-year-old Leeds player possessed similar qualities to Davy Klaassen.
“He is the same age as Davy Klaassen, it is a textbook example of how it should be done and how it should not be done,” the Dutch coach explained.
“He signed with Juventus for five years. Bouy was actually the successor for the left half position in the team, but his exit saw Ajax sign Lerin Duarte.
“Klaassen became captain of Ajax, was selected in the Dutch national team, played in the Champions League and played a Europa League final. That’s what you want at that age. Bouy has roamed everywhere, is rented to PEC Zwolle. In my eyes, he had almost the same qualities as Klaassen.”
Everton signed Klassen from Ajax in 2017 and he was a flop at the Merseyside club, which saw the player leave the Premier League side and made a switch to Werder Bremen in the summer.
