Here’s one more Brazilian outlet explaining what happened between Leeds United and Basel regarding the transfer of Arthur Cabral.

Yahoo journalist Jorge Nicola claims that the Elland Road side failed to sign the striker this summer, as their bid for him wasn’t good enough.

It’s claimed that the Whites were offering an amount of €15m for the move, plus €2m in performance bonuses.

But Basel wanted €20m, which is the amount of his release clause. Since the Swiss side weren’t flexible in negotiations, the deal collapsed.

Jorge Nicola says he’s been in touch with Arthur Cabral’s agent, Paulo Pitombeira, who’s still in Europe looking for a new club for the player.

He considers it to be quite difficult, since Basel won’t edge the price down. The striker had 18 goals and six assists for the club last season.

The report claims that only after failing to sign Cabral, Leeds United decided to go for Rodrigo, from Valencia. They ended up signing him in a €30m deal.
