On March 11th, we covered claims from the Basque sport media that Ander Iturraspe could be moving to Leeds United this summer.

The Athletic Club Bilbao midfielder has hardly played this season and his contract expires at the end of June, with little prospect of it being renewed.

It was the Basque edition of AS which brought the story and whilst they covered his recent troubles, with fitness and selection, it was made clear the midfielder has a lot of natural talent.

Leeds United were pushed forward as an option for the 30 year old, with the Marcelo Bielsa connection wheeled out. Iturraspe played under the Argentine at Athletic, and could try to kickstart his career under him.

There wasn’t thought to be big La Liga competition at the time, but El Gol now say that Getafe are keen on the player, who they would sign to replace Uruguayan Mauro Arambarri.

The midfielder has had a good season for Getafe, who currently sit a very impressive fourth in La Liga, and it’s thought vultures will be circling.

El Gol say Leeds United are Getafe’s ‘biggest rival’ for Iturraspe.
