The agency of Stuttgart attacker Alexandru Maxim have confirmed their client has joined Mainz. Romanian international Maxim has been linked with a move to Leeds United in recent months, after the Championship side held talks with his agent.

It was expected Maxim would leave Stuttgart this summer, but the question was which club would win the race to sign him. Last season the playmaker fell out of favour at Stuttgart under Hannes Wolf, which led to interest from Leeds United and Club America.

SEG have today confirmed on their Twitter account that Maxim has become the new No.10 at Mainz, and they’ve congratulated him on his move.

Leeds United have been showing an interest in Maxim since the last window, when the Championship side held initial talks with his agent.

In the past few months the playmaker has continued to be linked with a move to Elland Road, with claims this month they were in talks to sign him. However, the German club denied these talks took place.
