Leeds United supporters won’t forget their April 2019 match against Aston Villa in a hurry. A controversy on the pitch, as Leeds continued with play and scored after an injury, saw Bielsa instruct his own team to let Villa score a goal.
The incident made the news around world football and is clearly still in the heads of many when it comes to similar things happening on a pitch.
Saturday saw Inter Milan lose 3-1 to Lazio in a match which will be remembered for all kinds of controversies and arguments. There was trouble during and after the game, and Gazzetta dello Sport report Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic went to argue with Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri after the final whistle.
The stopper believed Sarri should have shown similar sportsmanship to the Leeds United manager. Gazzetta believe such a stance would have been hard for Sarri to take, especially given the match was already full of bad blood.
Indeed, in a bizarre incident after the final whistle, Lazio’s Luiz Felipe jumped on the back of Joaquin Correa, who left the Roma club for Inter in the summer. Perhaps it was intended as a joke with an old friend, but it went badly and Luiz Felipe was a shown a red card, only to then burst out in tears.
