Leeds United are considering signing Francis Coquelin, according to Super Deporte.
The 33-year-old has been without a club since his contract at Villarreal expired on June 30th. He had received ‘exotic’ offers in the summer window but turned it down. There’s no mention which club[s] made offers or why the midfielder turned them down.
Leeds are looking to sign him on a free transfer, to ease the difficult situation at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke is likely to be without Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev for a while. The two midfielders have suffered knee injuries, and the report states they are set for ‘several months’ on the sidelines.
The situation at Elland Road seems to have made the Whites react and they have now set their sights on Coquelin.
It’s claimed the Championship side have made contact with the former Arsenal man. This has been done to find about his fitness and if he can ‘show optimal level’.
Super Deporte say the Frenchman has been training with lower division Spanish side UD Alzira to maintain his physical level.
