‘His price rises like foam’, that’s what Diario Vasco have to say about Samu Saiz. The 26 year old SD Huesca player was supposed to be signing for Eibar this week, but, at the last minute, things have become complicated.

Diario Vasco believe the Eibar move is dead, saying: ‘Samu Saiz is not yet a player of Eibar, as it is pointed out in various media, and he probably will not be in the future either.’

They’re perhaps a little more glum than they should be, but claims of Leeds United interest seem to have killed Eibar’s hope, at least for a lot of the Spanish media. It’s stated that Leeds have made a ‘more tempting offer’ to convince the attacker to sign for them.

La Liga clubs are also said to be making last minute efforts, which makes it even harder for Eibar to get a deal done.

Mundo Deportivo cover Leeds United’s last minute efforts, but it’s all ‘apparently’, ‘according to English claims’, that kind of thing. Despite this story starting in Spain, they’ve been somewhat surprised at how quickly the claims have escalated, perhaps they don’t now how the Leeds United media train works.

Saiz has been linked with Leeds previously, last summer, and nothing came of it. There’s every chance Victor Orta is interested, by coincidence, or perhaps the club’s name is being used to get a little more money out of Eibar.

Playing mainly as a second striker or attacking midfielder, last season Saiz scored 12 goals and added 8 assists for Huesca in the Segunda Division.
