Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci has come under scrutiny in the Italian media for the number of bookings he’s picked up this season. The 27-year-old returned to Italy in the summer when he was loaned out to Empoli for the season, and it’s unlikely he’d find a way back at Leeds.
Garry Monk brought in Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley in the summer, and whilst the pair are on loan deals, there’s an expectation at least one will stay.
Goal.it have reported on Bellusci’s discipline on the pitch this season, which has seen him pick up eight yellow cards, including seven in the last seven games. The Leeds United man is currently out on his own with the most bookings in Serie A this season, and has already served a ban after being cautioned against AS Roma a few weeks ago.
Bellusci’s record mirrors that of former Leeds United midfielder Tommaso Bianchi when he joined Ascoli last season. The 28-year-old picked up a host of yellow and red cards when he returned to Italy, and maybe it’s their time in the Championship, and its more aggressive style of play, which is contributing to this.
Bellusci joined Leeds United from Catania in 2014, but it always seemed he had a desire to return to Italy. The player came in for flak last season from the Leeds United fans for his performances, which led to speculation he would return to his home country.
However, despite Bellusci’s disciplinary record, a permanent move to Empoli is looking likely given his performances for the Tuscan club so far this season.
