Udinese have sacked Giuseppe Iachini just two months into the season despite only making him their coach in May. The veteran Italian coach was linked with Leeds United at the end of last season following talks with owner Massimo Cellino.
It’s been made official in the past 48 hours that Iachini has been replaced by Luigi Delneri following a poor start to the season for the Serie A side.
The 52-year-old has paid the price for Udinese winning just two of their opening seven games in the league, which has left the Italian side 16th in the Serie A table. The final straw for the Pozzo family came when Udinese were beaten by Lazio 3-0 at the weekend.
In May we covered reports from Italy that Leeds United were in talks with Iachini, and an offer has been made to the Italian to replace Steve Evans. Iachini was out of work after leaving Palermo in March, but turned down Leeds United advances when he joined Udinese.
The Championship side in the end installed Garry Monk as Evans’ replacement.
