Leeds United had an official at the match between Pacos de Ferreria and Sporting on Sunday.
Jorge Jesus’ Sporting got a 2-1 victory in an evenly contested match and the scouts section of the stand was packed, report O Jogo.
The Portuguese newspaper names Leeds United among a number of English clubs to have someone present, the only Championship side represented. There were also club officials from elsewhere in Europe, with AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund having scouts in attendance.
Very different targets
Monaco will quite possibly have been running the rule over William Carvalho, who they considered signing during the summer transfer window, and there’s every chance Gelson Martins could also interest the French principality club.
Dortmund could be interested in those two, Dutch striker Bas Dost, and perhaps Bruno Fernandes.
All of those are out of Leeds United’s reach and it’s likely they’d have been watching a Pacos de Ferreira player, or possibly hoping to see someone on the fringes of Sporting’s team.
Last purchase from Portugal hasn’t gone well
Leeds United signed Hadi Sacko from Sporting in the summer on a permanent deal, following a loan period with the club, and 88 minutes of Championship football so far this season tells its own story.
