Back in the middle of the week, the Brazilian media reported that Leeds United are interested in the signing of Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira.
It was claimed by UOL that since the Whites don’t have a stance from Marcelo Bielsa regarding a contract renewal, they already have a few options on the table just in case their boss decides to leave the club at the end of the season.
With two Copa Libertadores titles in a row, Abel Ferreira is said to be one of the main candidates for the job, and now we see someone else with this information as well.
This time it’s journalist Brenno Beretta, who on Twitter, also says that Leeds United have the 42-year-old ‘in a list of potential replacements’ for Bielsa.
It’s claimed that Ferreira has many approaches from outside of Brazil, but only one concrete offer, from Al-Nassr. It’s also said that he should ‘define his future’ after his vacations.
With it being the end of the season in Brazil, Ferreira is now returning to Portugal to stay with his family. Even though he’s expected by Palmeiras in January, not everyone believes he’ll indeed come back.
Following the news of Leeds United’s interest, we’ve seen Brazilian pundit Neto claiming that Palmeiras will not be able to convince him to stay, not even if they ‘buy him a plane’ so his family can travel from Portugal to Brazil more often.
So it doesn’t sound unlikely that the Elland Road side could sign the Portuguese manager, but before they take any action, they must wait for Bielsa’s decision on his future first.
