Leeds United have stepped up their pursuit of Ternana Felipe Avenatti, according to claims in the Umbrian media. The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Leeds United in the past 12 months after the Championship side tried to sign him last summer.

Ternana News have today reported Leeds United are increasingly insistent on signing Avenatti in this transfer window, with claims there has been contact.

It’s not been revealed if these approaches have been made with his agent or Ternana, but there is a possibility Ternana News could be getting ahead of themselves following recent speculation linking the Uruguayan to Leeds United.

Despite this vagueness over Leeds United’s contact for the player it has been claimed a move to England may happen this summer.

In the past few weeks Avenatti’s future at Ternana has been questioned with reports the Serie B side may sell in this transfer window.

The South American only has 12 months left on his contract with the Italian side, and they could be forced to sell this summer in order to get a decent transfer fee.

If Avenatti does stay he will be able to speak to other clubs in the New Year, and could leave on a free in 12 months.
