Leeds United have been given renewed hope of bringing in Nicola Salerno after Palermo appointed Daniele Faggiano as their new sporting director in the past couple of days.The Championship club had been linked with Salerno in the past week.
Faggiano has been appointed as the sporting director of Palermo after Rino Foschi left the Serie A club to join up with Cesena. Ascoli and Bari were also keen to install Faggiano as their sporting director, but the chance to be involved with a club in the top flight would have been hard to turn down.
Palermo president Mauro Zamparini was keen to install Salerno as his sporting director, but other Palermo leaders wanted Faggiano. Zamparini tried to bring in Salerno before he joined Leeds United in 2014, and has always been keen to appoint the former Watford man
Last month there were reports in Italy claiming Salerno and Cellino had held talks with regards to a surprise return to Leeds United. The pair have a close relationship going back to their time at Cagliari.
