Former Leeds United forward Luciano Becchio has cut short his trial with Coventry City after just over a week in England. The Argentine is currently without a club after a spell with Rotherham United last season.

The Coventry Telegraph have confirmed Becchio has returned to his home in Spain, with reports the player picked up a muscle injury.

The 32-year-old believes he wouldn’t be able to do himself justice in the remainder of his trial. Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray was monitoring the player, and was expected to make a decision on whether to offer him a contract at the end of the week.

Becchio spent five seasons with Leeds United after signing from Merida in 2008. The South American became a fan favourite at Elland Road, scoring 75 goals in 195 league appearances for the club.

Becchio left the club in 2013 to try his luck in the Premier League with Norwich City as part of the deal that brought Steve Morison to Leeds United.
