Bayern Munich made an attempt to sign Raphinha from Leeds United, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The winger spent two years at Leeds before joining Barcelona in the summer of 2022. He was wanted by the Bundesliga side earlier that year.
Raphinha’s fine displays for Leeds had caught the attention of clubs in England and across Europe.
Bayern wanted to sign the Brazil international in January 2022. They wanted him to replace Kingsley Coman, who was expected to leave at the end of the 2021/22 season.
Mundo points out claims made elsewhere about Bayern and the English club agreeing a deal worth around €50m for Raphinha.
Despite the agreement, the deal didn’t take shape mainly because Coman ended up signing a new contract with the Bavarian club in early 2022.
Mundo claim the failed deal with Bayern ‘benefited all parties’. Raphinha was instrumental in helping Leeds avoid relegation from the Premier League during the 2021/22 season.
The Whites then sold him to Barcelona for a higher fee, and the player also ‘achieved his dream’ of playing for the La Liga side.
Earlier this week, Raphinha scored a hattrick in Barca’s 4-1 Champions League win over Bayern.
