Club America have joined the race to sign Stuttgart midfielder Alexandru Maxim, according to claims in the German media. The Romanian international looks surplus to requirements at Stuttgart and has also been linked with Leeds United in recent weeks.
Stuttgarter Nachrichten have today claimed Club America are serious about signing Maxim, and have already entered into talks to bring the player to Mexico.
Maxim has struggled to hold down a place in the Stuttgart team this season, which has led to speculation he could leave the German club.
Manager Hannes Wolf recently said they would listen to offers for the Leeds United target because he has many players in his squad who can play in the same position.
Despite the talks with Club America, Stuttgart sporting director Jan Schindelmeiser has confirmed no offer has yet come in from the Central America club.
Earlier in the month we covered reports Leeds United had held initial talks to sign Maxim. This was confirmed by the player’s agent, but he only expects his client to move in the summer.
Maxim’s agent also gave Leeds United encouragement by saying the attacking midfielder would consider a move if any clubs showed a real interest signing him. Leeds United boss Garry Monk was also keen on the player when manager at Swansea City.
