It’s not only in England that Marcelo Bielsa’s approach at Leeds United is a topic of much discussion.
Following the Whites’ 6-2 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend, the press from several countries highlighted that El Loco’s style can be quite risky at times.
The Argentine media obviously couldn’t stay out of it, and quotes from journalist Martin Liberman, who is well known in the country, are doing the rounds there.
It all happened on Twitter, where the pundit mentioned that Manchester United had scored the sixth goal at the Premier League match and there was still plenty of time for more. So Liberman got a message from a reader which went as follows.
“Curious that Cholo conceded four against Bayern Munich and fighting until the end in the Champions League, having a great team, you did not say anything. But by chance and opportunely you take advantage of tweeting a win against a recently promoted team. Double standard.”
And it turned out the journalist didn’t respond with nice words about Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa, calling them a ‘small team’.
“Sir, this is a totally inflated ‘small team’ by the fans of their coach. He won the second-tier tournament very well, but he plays a role in the Premier League. I only describe reality. What does Simeone have to do with this?”
Bielsa obviously has a legion of fans in Argentina who acknowledge the influence he had on an entire generation of managers. However, there are also those who doubt him for not collecting big trophies, and Liberman seems to be one of them.
