Before Leeds United appointed Marcelo Bielsa and subsequently became darlings of much of the world sport media, the club had been known for one other thing over the past year.
The proposed crest change at the Championship side brought shock and hilarity around the world. It was so bad, such a poor job of a redesign, that it became news in many countries, providing chuckles for football fans who sent their sympathy to Leeds.
Eventually, the club backed down and there was talk of a consultation and fans contributing to the design of the new crest. That’s all been pushed back repeatedly and now everything has been kicked into the long grass for next season.
But whilst the badge design made news around the world, the club backing down didn’t… and that means some believe Leeds United are changing to that dreaded redesign.
Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo covers Barca’s proposed crest change, with the Catalan club removing the FCB and some internal black lines.
Mundo Deportivo say Leeds ‘paid tribute to their fans’ which the new crest, showing a supporter on it.
On the bright-side, the newspaper lists Leeds United as one of the ‘grand clubs’ to have changed design, which is a compliment even though they haven’t.
