Leeds United have reportedly joined the race for Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
In the past few weeks, the 22-year-old had already been linked to the likes of Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, and now it’s time to see the Whites named in this battle.
The information is brought by Portuguese newspaper Record, who actually bring some very interesting claims on this pursuit.
It’s written that Leeds have had the player referenced for a while, as their scouting department had him targeted back during his time at Uruguayan club Fenix.
Now with him doing well at Sporting, Victor Orta, who’s an ‘appreciator’ of his qualities, became more interested in his signing.
According to Record, Leeds already made a few approaches towards Ugarte’s staff and have him listed as a target for the summer window. It’s added that the Whites need to guarantee a place in the Premier League next season before thinking of placing a bid for the Uruguayan.
It’s not yet known how much it’d take to sign Ugarte from Sporting. The player’s release clause is €60m, even though the club have been trying hard to get it raised to €80m.
