Leeds United are close to announcing the appointment of Francesco Marroccu as their new sporting director.
Marroccu left Ascoli at the end of last season, and has been linked with Leeds United throughout the summer after we reported in June they were in talks with him.The Daily Mail have now revealed Leeds United expect to officially announce Marroccu as their new sporting director.
Marroccu has in the past few weeks been seen at Leeds United’s training sessions, and after just one season with Ascoli it looks like he will again be joining up with Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino. The pair had previously worked together when Cellino was the president of Cagliari just before he purchased Leeds United.
The Italian was linked with a reunion with Cellino last year after claims he was in the running for the Leeds United sporting director role.
Marroccu had just resigned from his position at Cagliari after they were relegated in the 2014/15 season, but instead of coming to England to replace Nicola Salerno at Leeds United he joined up with Ascoli.
Despite the Serie A club avoiding relegation to Lega Pro last season the sporting director still left the Del Duca in June.
