Championship Trophy

Leeds United defender Luke Ayling and Aston Villa forward Jonathan Kodjia have been named in the EFL Team of the Week after last weekend’s round of matches. Summer signings for both clubs, the two players have been selected following the part they played in their team’s victories.

Ayling joined Leeds United in the summer from Everton, and the youngster was influential in his side’s 3-2 victory over Norwich City on Saturday. EFL.com say Ayling was one of a number of impressive performers for Garry Monk’s side, but it was his contribution during the game which got him the nod ahead of his teammates.

The full back provided the assist for Chris Woods to score Leeds United’s second goal, and was on hand to deny Norwich City at the other end.

Championship record signing Kodjia was also impressive at the weekend, helping Aston Villa get a much-needed win against Blackburn Rovers. With Aston Villa trailing in the game, Kodjia was on hand to level the scores from the penalty sport before getting the winner for Steve Bruce’s side.

The Frenchman’s brace on Saturday was his sixth league goal in nine games.
