The agent of Lucchese forward Leandro Martinez has told the Italian media there are English clubs interested in his client. The 26-year-old is currently on loan with the Lega Pro side form Hungarian club Haladias.
Speaking to TMW, Nicola Giuliani was asked about the future of Martinez after his impressive start in Italy, and the links with Championship sides. Giuliani confirmed there are clubs from the second tier in England who are interested in the Argentine forward, and there has been recent contact. However, the player’s agent said he won’t go into naming the clubs, but did say they’ve followed him since playing in Hungary.
“I’d rather not name names, but it is absolutely true the interest of some English clubs for Martinez, they already know him from the days when he played in Hungary and they asked about him in recent weeks,” said Giuliani.
Despite Gialiani’s refusal to name the clubs interested, a Championship side who be linked is Leeds United. Since Massimo Cellino bought Leeds United in 2014 the club have brought in a number of Italian based players to Elland Road. Under Nicola Salerno, Leeds United signed Serie A and Serie B players, but less so when he left for Watford last year.
However, with Francesco Marroccu recently joining up with Leeds United, the former Ascoli sporting director could be looking to his home country to recruit.
