Whether Marcelo Bielsa finally gets Rodrigo De Paul remains to be seen, but the Argentine midfielder has hinted on Friday that he could leave Udinese in the summer.
He didn’t say as much officially, but in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the long-time Leeds United target has admitted he has spoken to the Serie A side about his future, as well as those around him.
He said: “What I had to say, I said to the club, to my agent, but I can’t say more. By now, I’m used to the fact that people talk about me. Here, however, people love me and I am now the captain of this team.”
With the likes of Leeds, Liverpool and even Atlético Madrid all said to be keen on his services, De Paul should have a big pool to choose from in the summer, as long as Udinese get the money they want for him.
Previous reports suggest a fee of at least €40m will be needed, and wherever it comes from, the player could listen to it.
Asked by Gazzetta if he prefers Serie A, La Liga or even the Premier League, he replied: “I watch them all, but I just don’t think about it. I know there are teams interested, but I have Sunday in mind.”
It appears the fact that Leeds and Liverpool are after him has reached the player himself, but first, he must finish the season in a 2pm game against Inter on Sunday.
After that, who knows what might happen.
