Following claims in the past that big clubs are after Illan Meslier, the news that Leeds United could be planning for a potential exit, as unlikely as it is, might not be overly surprising.
It isn’t clear whether that will definitely happen or not, since the Frenchman is a fan favourite at Elland Road and certainly looks set to stay under Jesse Marsch long-term after being brought to the club by the Marcelo Bielsa regime.
Still, Media Foot in France claim that Leeds are looking at a new goalkeeper faced with interest in Meslier, and the name they have ticked is that of Dominik Livakovic.
The goalkeeper has been the star of the show for Croatia at the World Cup, saving penalties against Japan and Brazil to see his country through to the semi-finals, and it is a wonder how he still is at Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 27.
We doubt that will be the case after this World Cup, but Media Foot do state that with the ‘probable sale’ of Meslier (insert heavy doubt here from us and everyone else), Leeds have ‘activated behind the scenes’ to find his successor.
Livakovic is the man who has ‘caught their eye’, with it further added that Leeds have already contacted his agency, Stellar, to see if something could be done.
As for how much he would cost, the belief is that Dinamo wouldn’t stand in his way if a ‘nice offer superior to €10m were to arrive’.
