Leeds United have ‘expressed interest’ in signing defender Alejandro Grimaldo on a free transfer in the summer.
That’s according to Record, who back up reports from England today stating that Leeds are keen on the left-back.
The newspaper explains that Leeds have ‘expressed interest’ to the player in bringing him to Elland Road at the end of the season, with his current contract expiring and him set to be available on a free.
However, that has been quickly rebuffed by the 27-year-old, who has made it clear he is ‘not interested’ in the switch.
That’s because he’s decided that if he is to leave the Reds this summer, he intends to head for a project that will lead him to participate in European competitions and particularly the Champions League.
He is also aware that there is interest in him from around Europe, with Barcelona also having scouted him at various points.
He was not interested in the move to the Nou Camp, though, as he wants to join a club where he will be a guaranteed starter.
Leeds could offer that, of course, but they are currently in the midst of a relegation battle and nowhere near any kind of European football next season so the interest was dismissed.
