Following the news that Leeds United had failed in their attempt to sign Arne Slot from Feyenoord to replace Jesse Marsch, details of the negotiations have filtered out here and there.
One major piece of information came from journalist Mike Verweij, who stated the Whites were prepared to pay €3m to the Eredivisie club to convince them of letting their manager go, as well as offering the man himself a wage of around €4m/year.
There have been plenty of opinions on Feyenoord’s dismissal of this offer since, as Leeds have been forced to look elsewhere, but Marcel van der Kraan, another Dutch journalist, believes the Premier League side actually offered even more money.
Relayed by FC Update, the De Telegraaf man wrote Feyenoord ‘could receive almost €4m’ from Leeds United had they accepted to let Slot go, while he ‘could collect a little more than the same amount (€4.5m) in salary per season’, showing just how much Victor Orta wanted him.
Still, this never went through, as Slot stated he wanted to finish his good season at his current club, but what he will do for the next season remains to be seen.
While he has a contract there until mid-2025, it could certainly be that Leeds return in the summer if they haven’t found anyone and somehow avoid the drop, as he has a clause in his contract, with Van der Kraan adding that ‘it’s known that England has the most attractive offers financially’.
Whether they do either of those things, however, remains to be seen.
