Leeds United defender Maximilian Wöber has admitted he wanted his future sorted by now but admits he may have to wait for them to get over their play-off final defeat to Southampton first.

The defender has been speaking to Kleine Zeitung about his future, with him currently set to return to Elland Road this summer from a loan spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

He’s been with the German club since the summer, electing to leave Leeds temporarily last summer following their relegation to the Championship.

He’s been a regular for them this season and they, as well as the player, are keen on a permanent move happening, but several reports have made it clear that the Bundesliga side can’t afford to match Leeds demands at present.

That’s left him in something of a limbo at this moment in time, with him waiting for Gladbach and Leeds to potentially work out a deal for him so he can get the move that he wants.

In the meantime, he is preparing for Euro 2024 with Austria, where he is set to be a key player under Ralf Rangnick after establishing himself in the team this year thanks to his performances in Germany.

And it seems he’s instructed his agent to keep the calls away from him until that’s done with, even if he had wanted the issue dealt with long before now.

“My goal was to answer the club question before the Euros,” he said.

“But it is what it is now. I told my manager that he didn’t need to call me or tell me anything for the next four weeks. I want to play the European Championships now. After that we’ll see where it goes.

“It will also depend on what they (Leeds) say. But they will probably have to digest this playoff defeat for a week or two. We’ll see how they want to line up and whether I’m in their plans or not.

“If you are in contact with the manager the whole time, you automatically deal with it, start looking for an apartment, organize the move and talk about it with family and friends. I just want to ignore it and not worry about it.”
