During the international break, we covered claims of Arsenal youngster Marcelo Flores having a difficult time at Oviedo.
The 19-year-old moved on loan to the Spanish club in the summer window and was expected to get a decent amount of minutes and help his progression, which has been in danger of stalling.
He’d only had 219 minutes of action all season, and with Oviedo towards the wrong end of Spain’s second division, the loan from Arsenal wasn’t looking great.
On Sunday, Oviedo lost 3-1 at home to FC Cartagena, and Flores started the match. El Desmarque say that like others, the loan player is ‘leaving much to be desired’. He was expected to make an ‘immediate impact’ when moving from Arsenal, due to his ‘quality and potential’, and that clearly hasn’t happened.
He’s been ‘disappointing’ and his performance at the weekend was ‘discreet’, not taking his chance as he was given a start.
There’s already been rumours Arsenal may cut the loan short in the January window, and it would appear that, as things stand, Oviedo wouldn’t be too displeased with that.
