Since Botafogo were first linked to the signing of Manchester United star Edinson Cavani, we first saw the club admitting their dream of landing the player, and then reports claiming the talks had cooled down.
This week, club owner John Textor admitted they’re ‘trying’ to bring the striker to Brazil, even though the talks are still ‘complicated’.
As newspaper O Globo features a story on Botafogo’s plans for the summer window, they feature interesting information on how their chase for the Manchester United player has been going.
Their idea was to sign him as a free agent, as his contract Manchester United expires at the end of the season, and have him at the club until his retirement.
O Globo claims Botafogo even had a post-career plan for Cavani in Rio de Janeiro, and that the way the talks were carried out was ‘liked’ by the striker’s representatives.
The problem is that some details, such as salary demands, were soon out in the media.
According to the report, the ‘leaks damaged the conversations’, and some sources say a deal could’ve been reached if that ‘misinformation’ hadn’t come out of the club.
Now as Botafogo continue to be hopeful of the signing, they face big competition for him, as clubs from Brazil, Spain and the United States are all interested in taking the Manchester United star for free this summer.
