Sporting CP have reportedly rejected another bid from West Bromwich Albion for the midfielder William Carvalho.
According to Record, the Baggies have now offered €30m for the player, raising the €25m bid they’ve delivered during the summer window.
But Sporting are really not interested in negotiating for Carvalho, especially because it wouldn’t be easy to find a replacement at this time of the year.
That’s why the player is only leaving if someone pays for his release clause, which currently is €45m, but can only be activated in the summer.
Carvalho has always been much valued by Sporting, and the club have always been trying to protect him since he first started being linked to English sides such as Arsenal and Manchester United a few years ago.
The player has done an incredible defensive job in Sporting’s midfield for years, and only became more known in Europe after the Euro 2016 title for Portugal this year.
At the end of the summer transfer window another Portuguese newspaper, O Jogo, claimed West Brom had put a last minute offer in of €30m plus €5m in bonuses, but that was also unsuccessful.
If West Brom still want Carvalho then a summer move, at a figure over €30m, would be much likelier.
Maybe West Brom will wait until the end of January and try a straight €35m offer. Sporting are already eight points adrift in the league and if their hopes are further dented then they may decide to cash in.
