Ah, Thomas Muller to Manchester United, so we meet again.
Even before Louis van Gaal arrived at Old Trafford, the club had been repeatedly linked to Muller, and the Dutchman helped ram that home. Van Gaal had helped Muller come through at Bayern Munich and any signs of a possible deal would be grasped.
Bayern have loved the Manchester United rumour, confident they won’t ever have to sell, or that Muller will push for it, the German club have been able to brag about refused offers.
The confirmation of Manchester United offers, made repeatedly over the past couple of years by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, just seems to be part of an effort by the German club to fluff their feathers over transfers.
Continually happy to brag to the German media, especially to SportBild, about such failed offers, Bayern will love that the English media are kicking off Muller to Manchester United again.
The Sun are the ones kicking off the rumour this time, claiming Jose Mourinho is interested, and it obviously seems to be a punt. Manchester United are well stocked for strikers-who-can-also-play-wide and it would make little sense for Muller to swap the Bayern bench for one in England.
Bastian Schweinsteiger found that out the hard way, and if Muller to Manchester United was ever likely, now doesn’t feel like the time.
